Mary Elizabeth Barnes, 73, of Chattanooga, went to be with the Lord on Monday, July 9, 2007.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Lannie Barnes Sr.; parents, Albert and Lillian Golden; two brothers; and two sisters.
Survivors include her two sons, Robert E. and Clyde L. (Debbie) Broyles; daughter, Glenda Gail "Sissy" Broyles; grandchildren, Tonya (Johnny) Sullins and Timothy L. Broyles; great-grandchildren, Taylor McCrary and Chelica Helton ; three sisters, Dorothy Fullam, Alice Niles and Lillian Ruth; and several special friends.
Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. today in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Billy Dean officiating.
Interment will be in Chattanooga National Cemetery.

Alfred Blair
Alfred Paul Blair, 84, a lifelong resident of Apison, died at his home early Sunday morning, July 8, 2007.
Mr. Blair was of the Baptist faith and was preceded in death by his wife of 50 years, Velva Boles Blair; a daughter, Wanda Faye Blair; parents, W.A. and Maggie Blair; sisters, Lizzie Bell Elliott and Lillie Mae Lewis; and brothers, Robert, Burton, Floyd, John and Edsel Blair.
Survivors include his daughter, Mary Elizabeth Ford; granddaughter, Candace Ford; brother, Carl Blair; and several nieces and nephews.
Graveside services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday in Antioch Baptist Church Cemetery with the Rev. Ernest Sutton officiating.
Pallbearers will be nephews, Charles Crowden, Lebron Crowden, Bobby Elliott, Ronnie Elliott, Jacky Blair and Dewey Blair.

Martha Maude Cooley, 90, of Chattanooga, passed away Thursday morning, July 5, 2007.
Born in Kentucky, Martha had lived in Chattanooga most of her life. Martha was a well-educated woman who was an airplane pilot, avid hunter, lifeguard and was very politically minded.
Survivors include nephew, John Murray; two nieces, Dene Murray Shull and Diana Dalzotto; and sister, Irene Boyles Baker.
Graveside services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday in Chattanooga Memorial Park with the Rev. Bert Jones officiating.

Mary Louise Culver, 84, of Soddy-Daisy, passed away Sunday, July 8, 2007, at her home.
Mrs. Culver was preceded in death by her husband, Delbert Culver ; daughter, Brenda Skiles; and brothers, Clarence Shattuck Sr. and Glenn Shattuck.
Survivors include her sons, Houston Culver, of Sale Creek, Earl Culver, of Soddy-Daisy, and Gary Culver, of Soddy-Daisy ; daughter, Doris Watts, of Soddy-Daisy ; nine grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

Helen Frances Day, 72, of Chattanooga, passed away at her home Sunday, July 8, 2007.
She was a member of Brainerd Hills Presbyterian Church.
She was preceded in death by her father and mother, Ira and Ona Jones, and one daughter, Teresa Jane Day.
She is survived by her husband, Charles Day Sr.; one son and daughter-in-law, Charles (Victoria) Day Jr.; sister, Wanda Love; three grandchildren, Krystal Chanell, Ann Apple and Teresa Day; four greatgrandchildren ; and several nieces and nephews.

Janet Hamm
Janet Gothard Hamm, 59, of Chattanooga, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, July 6, 2007.
Janet was a vibrant Christian who loved the Lord with all her heart. She gave her life to her Savior, Jesus, at the age of 9 and her faith was an inspiration to many. She was a longtime member of First Presbyterian Church and also attended East Ridge Church of God.
She was the daughter of the late Walter L. Gothard and Mary Pearl Gothard.
Janet was a proud graduate of Brainerd High School, class of 1966. She also attended Middle Tennessee State University.
Janet was the broker for Help-U-Sell Today Realty and had been a Realtor for over 30 years. She received her broker's license in 1978. She served as a director of the Chattanooga Association of Realtors as well as a mediator. Janet was a past vice president of the Multiple Listing Service. Despite her illness, she was a multimillion-dollar producer this year and was currently serving on the professional standards committee of CAR.
Janet was also a member and past president of Eastgate Sertoma.
Survivors include her daughter, Krisi (Danny) Johnson; three grandchildren, Grace, Logan and Aidan Johnson; and sisters, Karla Gothard and Mary Ann Green.
Special thanks goes to Hospice of Chattanooga and the many friends who provided care for her in her final days.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at First Presbyterian Church with Ben Haden and Steve Wallace officiating.
Burial will be in Forest Hills Cemetery.

Ralph Vineyard
Ralph Everette Vineyard, 91, died Sunday, July 8, 2007, in Shelbyville, Tenn.
He was born in Knoxville and was the son of the late Alex Vineyard and Bess Henry Woods.
A veteran of World War II, Mr. Vineyard served in the U.S. Navy.
He was an attorney and practiced law in Chattanooga for many years. He also served as a former city judge for the city of Red Bank.
Mr. Vineyard was a member of Red Bank United Methodist Church. He was also a 32nd-degree Mason and held membership with Red Bank Masonic Lodge F&AM 717.
He was an avid Tennessee Walking Horse fan and exhibitor.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Anne McBee Vineyard.
Survivors include a daughter, Julia Vineyard Cole, of Shelbyville; a nephew and his wife, Woodrow and Gayle Crawley; three grandnephews, Andrew and his wife, Susan, Matthew and Mark and his wife, Alice Crawley; three great-greatnieces, Morgan, Shelby and Madeline Grace Crawley; and a greatgreat-nephew, Jordan Crawley, all of Knoxville.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, July 11, 2007, in the North Chapel with the Rev. Mike Hubble and the Rev. Rick Spell officiating.

Cora Alice Woodard, 84, of Chattanooga, departed this life at her home Friday, July 6, 2007.
She was a faithful member of Quinn Chapel AME Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles A. Woodard, and her oldest daughter, Yvonne Woodard Smith.
She leaves to mourn three daughters, Rosaline Woodard, of Knoxville, Charlesetta Woodard-Thomas, of Chattanooga, and Sheralaine Boseman, of Chattanooga ; devoted sister-in-law, Doris Lovelace; son-in-law,son Robert- in -- law sonin-law, Robert D. Boseman Jr.; four grandchildren, Robert (Felicia) Boseman III, of Chattanooga, Natasha (Morris) Jackson, of Chattanooga, Tracy Thompson, of Columbus, Ohio, and Sinclair (Carrie) Smith, of California; seven great-grandchildren ; the Lovelace, Woods and Fortson families; and a wealth of other family and friends.

She was a member of the Seventh-day Adventist Church.
She is survived by her husband of 33 years, Hank Abston, of Pikeville ; eight children, Linda (Tony) DeWind, of Pikeville, Judy Rash, of Pikeville, R. Terry Wood (fiance , Jay Robertson), of Albany, Ga., Dianne (Jim) Jeter, of Panama City, Fla., Charmayne (Terry) Leard, of Marietta, Ga., Lori (Jeff) Quick, of Pikeville, LeAllen Abston, of Pikeville, and Kelly Abston, of Washington, D.C.; 12 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren;great -- grandchildren greatgrandchildren ; one sister, Peggy Sage, of Tucson, Ariz.; and several nieces and nephews.

Jerry Harwood Sr.
SPRING CITY -- Jerry H. Harwood Sr., 57, left us on Sunday, July 8, 2007, at Rhea County Medical Center after a yearlong battle with cancer.
A lifetime resident of Rhea County, he was a much-loved father and brother and we will miss him greatly. Jerry was the son of the late Arch and Pauline Wilkey Harwood. A graduate of Spring City High School, he was a member of Bogles Chapel Baptist Church, served in the U.S. Army and was a retired master pipe fitter with JEM Mechanical.
Jerry was preceded in death by his two precious sons, Joshua and Jerry H. Harwood Jr.; and brothers, Jack and Jeff Harwood.
Survivors include his son, Chris Harwood, of Spring City; sister, Jean Harwood, of Spring City; nephew, Andrew Stinnett, of Chattanooga; niece, Vickie May, of Dayton, Tenn.; two great-nephews, Drew and Zack Stinnett, of Chattanooga; and three great-nieces, Chelsea, Kelly and Tierney, of Dayton.

She was a member of Baptist Hill Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, William "Will" Mosley ; two sons, William Lloyd and Franklin Kenneth Mosley; and parents, Alvin and Sally Moore Billingsley.
She is survived by children, Connie and Ernie Harris, of South Pittsburg, and Steven "Steve" Mosley, of Jasper, Tenn.; brother, Earl (Maria) Billingsley, of San Antonio, Texas; sister, Elsie (Jonesie) Jones, of Whitwell, Tenn.; grandchildren, Cheri Fugate, Gary Mosley and Stephanie Stonesifer; seven great-grandchildren ; special care-giver and friend, Donna Stills; and several nieces and nephews.

SPRING CITY -- James Crave Thompson, 77, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, July 8, 2007, at Methodist Medical Center in Oak Ridge, Tenn.
A lifetime resident of Rhea County, he was the son of the late James L. and Mary Ethel Reed Thompson. Jim was a proud member of the U.S. Navy during and after the Korean War aboard the USS Valley Forge, spending time in Korea and North Africa. He was a member of Spring City American Legion Post 100, retired from Spring City Public Works Department and was of the Baptist faith.
Jim was preceded in death by his wife, Marie Roberts Thompson, and several brothers and sisters, Johnny Thompson, Howard Manning, Hoyle Manning, Doug Manning, Charliss Edmundson, Genive Mullins, Mabel Manning and Hallie Sheets.
Jim was survived by his son, Olan Gordon (Johnnie) Roberts, of Spring City; and daughter, Katherine (Careal) Stewart, of Gordonsville, Tenn.; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 11, in the chapel of Vaughn Funeral Home with the Rev. Dale Wyrick officiating.

RINGGOLD -- L. Ruth Edwards Brooks, 85, passed away Sunday, July 8, 2007, after a long illness.
She was born in Catoosa County, the first daughter to the late Gus and Emmie Lee. She was a member of Rossville Church of God of Prophecy in Rossville for many years and retired from J.C.
Penny in 1989 after more than 19 years. Ruth loved flowers and continued to work with them even after she wasn't really able.
She was preceded in death by four brothers, Luther, Ed, Otis and Donald Lee, and her first husband, William Ray Edwards.
Survivors include her husband, Ave Brooks, of Ringgold; two sons and daughters-in-law, Earnest and Faye Edwards, of Ringgold, and Rondle and Bettye Edwards, of Rock Spring, Ga.; three daughters and sons-in-law, Annie and Marvin Sims, Willie and Carl McDaniel and Jewel Goodlet and Mickey Liner, all of Ringgold; stepdaughter, Sharon Lee Brown, of Nashville; stepson, Ave Edwin Brooks, of Columbia, Tenn.; two sisters, Doris Gordy, of Rossville, and Emma Giles, of Dothan, Ala.; eight grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren ; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, July 11, 2007, in the Fort Oglethorpe Chapel with Brother Carl Jackson and Brother Ed Flowers officiating.

ROSSVILLE -- Bessie "Irene" Akins Cox, 94, died Sunday, July 8, 2007, at Regency Pointe Retirement Center.
She grew up in Fort Payne, Ala., before moving to Chattanooga. Mrs. Cox was an interior decorator for 33 years with Irene's Decorating Studio, retiring in 1972.
She moved back to Alabama in 2004. Mrs. Cox was a member of Chattanooga Valley Presbyterian Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents, John Earl "Jack" and Martha Josephine Akins; husband, James Hessell Cox; brothers, Johnie Roland Akins, Ollie T. Akins Sr., Buford B. Akins and Robert Lee Akins; and sister, Beatrice Akins Briles.
Survivors include her brother, Jack Akins Jr.; nephews, Buddy Akins and Robert Akins; niece, Diane Akins; and several greatnieces and great-nephews.
