NSW: Glenbrook rail inquiry findings delayed
SYDNEY, Aug 17 AAP - Transport Minister Carl Scully said today that the findings of
the Glenbrook rail inquiry had been delayed by four months.
The inquiry was ordered following the Glenbrook train crash in December last year in
which seven people died.
Chaired by Justice Peter McInerney, the inquiry was to also investigate a series of
derailments and recommend improvements to the rail network's safety.
The final report was due to be handed down by August 31, but Justice McInerney has
sought an extension until the end of the year.
Mr Scully said the government would support the request to extend the deadline to December 31.
Rail agencies have requested public sittings not to be held during the Olympics, adding
to the delay.
