FED: Churches to snare $700m from Job Network

Four church charities will net about $700 million over the next three years from the
Federal Government's Job Network.

The Sydney Morning Herald newspaper reports the big winners include the Salvation Army,
the Catholic Church's Centacare, Mission Australia and Wesley Uniting Employment.

But the Herald says many community-based job groups such as the former Skillshare group
don't have enough contracts to remain viable.

The big loser is the government's Employment National which stands to gain only $100
million over the next three years.

A bulletin to staff, obtained by the Herald, said Employment National foreshadowed
staff cuts and the possible closure of up to 60 outlets.
