Fed: White falcon and driver seen near hit and run victim

CANBERRA, Dec 29 AAP - A man driving a white Ford Falcon was seen also out of the car
on a Canberra nature strip just hours before hit-and-run victim Sally Ann Goodwin was
found dead, police said.

Ms Goodwin, 33, lay injured beside Northbourne Avenue, one of Canberra's arterial roads,
for up to seven hours early on Boxing Day after apparently being hit and thrown through
a wire fence.

The mother of three was spotted lying beside the main road to Sydney by a passing truck
driver at about 7am (AEDT).

She was taken to Canberra Hospital with severe head injuries and died a short time later.

Police said they now had information a thin, dark-haired man aged between 30 and 40
was seen on the same nature strip at about 5.50am.

The man, about 180cm tall and wearing dark trousers and a short-sleeved check shirt,
was driving a current model AU Ford Falcon.

If the car was involved in the hit-and-run, it probably would have a smashed windscreen
and a damaged right-hand side, police said.

There were skid marks and glass fragments nearby where Ms Goodwin was found, while
one of her red shoes lay in the middle of the road amid the glass in full view of passing
motorists.

Police said scientific evidence taken from the scene matched a car of the type described.

They appealed to the driver of the vehicle or anyone with information about the incident
to come forward.

Northbourne Avenue is the chief thoroughfare through Canberra's north. It becomes the
Federal Highway north of Canberra - the main road to Sydney.
